Oceanside Beach Wedding

Shooting at sunset on the beach is one of my favorite situations to shoot in. You really cant go wrong. I normally combine natural and off camera lighting, and shoot many different poses. In this series, I asked the bride and groom to run from the water to the camera several times. This frame was my favorite. This shot really shows the couple’s personality, and I love it.

Moon Over The Ocean

I shot this (several years ago) while I was waiting for the sun to come up, so I could shoot the pier during the sunrise. As it turned out, I didn’t like the shot I took of the pier. It was not as colorful as I wanted, and it looked a bit boring. Because I ended up with something that morning, I wasn’t totally sad.

Huntington Beach Lifeguard Tower

I am generally not a beach person. I hate when the sand gets between my toes, and all over the floor of the car. However, I do like to shoot at the beach – save the sand getting in my gear. The light and colors are for the most part more vivid than you normally see in regular life. On this morning, we were seeing my daughter off on her first marathon, and as we were walking to the starting point for the race, I saw this scene to my right. I knew what the image would like on my sensor before I took the shot. Yes, I have been shooting my whole life, and this particular skill is easy for me. To see the image in my head before it happens is both a blessing and a curse. I get cocky, and as I am seeing images, I decide not to take many shots, and I think that sometimes hurts my creativity. I like this shot, clean and simple. I like how it it pops. You can see the outline of Catalina island in the background as well. The perfectionist in me wanted to run out and comb over the tire tracks in the sand though.
