GunVault MicroVault MV500 Battery Warning
I have owned 2 of these gun-safes for about 2 years now. I use them because they meet the requirements of my local laws for securely storing a firearm in my vehicle and in my home. I have a CCW license. I open one of my safes daily usually more than once. My safes have been stored in both hot and cold weather – summer and winter in my vehicle.
When I bought my first safe, I only used it for home storage and hardly ever opened it. One day, about 7 months after buying the safe, I attempted to open it to clean my firearm and found that the buttons no longer lit up and didn’t work. I changed the battery (normal Duracell alkaline battery) and it worked fine. I then marked my calendar to change the batteries in 6 months.
I then bought a second safe for vehicle storage. One morning, about 4 months later, my safe would not open again. I replaced the battery and marked my calendar for a 4 month reminder.
The other day, when I could really use my firearm, it would not open again. It had been right about 4 months, and a few days before my scheduled battery change date. I changed the battery and it worked fine. I set my battery change reminder for 3 months.
I assume that the 3 month interval should be fine now because I have proven that the battery lasts almost 4 months with daily use.
I now carry the key to the safe, and would recommend that others do the same if you want to guarantee that you wont be in a dire situation without your firearm.
