I took this over 10 years ago. I am in the middle of re-organizing my images, and have been enjoying some of my older shots. I could not resist sharing this shot of Hot air balloons near Del Mar, California.

Lonely Eyes

I always wonder what’s going through the mind of a gorilla in captivity. I don’t like the fact that they are locked up, but there I was taking photos of them. Her eyes looked so sad and lonely.

Coronado Shores

This was a shot from a recent wedding in Coronado, Ca. The bride wanted sunset silhouette shots, so of course I did what I was told. After we took the silhouette shots, I opted to turn on my strobe, and you see the result here. This was done with high speed sync with my favorite light.

San Diego Skyline

I’ve shot this scene countless times. This one was taken June of 2011. The shot really isn’t that hard, it’s just getting up early enough and driving down to San Diego that is the tough part. So many photographers shoot this scene at sunset. The real beauty of the San Diego skyline only comes out at dawn. I’ll just keep this little secret to myself. If you live in SoCal and want to give this shot a try, my GPS coordinates, and time taken are below. You’ll just have to determine what time sunrise was on the day I shot this, and use the same offset for the day you plan to shoot.

I prefer the black and white version. The color version is quite striking. You can see another shot that I posted in color when the tide was higher.

San Diego Skyline from Mission Bay

I was shooting a wedding in the penthouse of the Hyatt Regency in Mission Bay, San Diego. I went outside on the balcony, and saw the gorgeous cloud layer over the city of San Diego. While the original color shot is acceptable, black and white looks so much better. Black and white removes all the distractions, and just makes the image all about light and contrast – exactly how I saw it when I shot it.
