Leonard died a few years back, but as I am going through old photos, I couldn’t resist posting this shot of Leonard Knight – Salvation Mountain creator.

Leonard Knight, the creator of Salvation Mountain looks up at his work. The screen behind him was propped up against the back of his car to keep the sun off of him. He allowed me a portrait session shortly before he left Salvation Mountain. He died in February of 2014. He had only good things to say, and was a very nice man.

Salvation Mountain

I spent quite a bit of time here back in ’09/’10. It was about a 2 hour drive from home. There was something about this place that kept me coming back. I was not working at the time, and it was a place I could go to pray, and get away from real life. I met Leonard Knight, the creator, and he was a nice guy. He said, “God never fails.” So much was on my shoulders at the time, It really helped me.

Leonard Knight of Salvation Mountain dies at 82

Leonard Knight has died. I met him several times to take his portrait, and all he could talk about was God’s endless love. He built Salvation Mountain – and lived there in a camper. If you haven’t see this wonder (Google it), you should drive out and take a look. Very inspirational.

I took this in Jan 2011. He was placed in a home not too long after this photo. I remember him looking up at his colorful walls, and telling visitors how much Jesus loves them.

With a heavy heart, and a tear in my eye.
RIP Leonard, God bless you.
